COVINGTON - The Newton County Board of Education will meet on an altered schedule this month.
Instead of meeting on the usual second and third Tuesdays of the month for work session and regular session meetings, as most of the meeting dates fall, the board will meet for one combined meeting on Tuesday.
As announced in January when the board released its 2009 meeting schedule, the board members plan to meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the board room at the BOE building, which is located at 2109 Newton Drive in Covington.
According to the posted agenda, the board plans to discuss such new business as a contract for construction of water and sewage lines, a foam tray recycling contract, a petition for Charter Career Academy and other items dealing with speech services.
It also will hear a report from the Newton County School System's operations department and an update on the curriculum and instructional program, as usual.
The board next will meet on an altered schedule in December, when the board also is scheduled to hold a combined meeting. It will begin at 7 p.m. Dec. 8 in the board room of the BOE building.
The board will meet as normal during August, when it is scheduled to meet Aug. 11 for a work session and Aug. 18 for a regular session meeting. Both meetings will begin at 7 p.m. in the board room of the BOE building.
