Porterdale to clear land for trail

PORTERDALE - The city will use some remaining funds from its 1995 special purpose local option sales tax to connect its walking trail to a multi-use trail planned by Newton County.

Hays honored with parkway naming, dedication

MANSFIELD - The late Lamar B. Hays was honored Thursday by family, friends and the Georgia Legislature with the dedication of a highway in his honor.

Ready to play ball

City Pond baseball fields are ready and waiting for the invasion of teams and fans in town for the Dixie Youth Baseball Major Georgia Tournament which will begin today. Newton County will have three teams in the 16-team tournament, including the Amerian Team, the Southern Team and the National Team, all of which face opponents today. Opening ceremonies for the event will take place at 5 p.m. at City Pond field. Play will continue through the week.
