Christian writers coming for conference

COVINGTON - Dozens of Christian writers are expected at DeKalb Technical College in Covington this week.

The East Metro Atlanta Christian Writers group is having its fifth annual conference from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday at DeKalb Technical College's Newton Center, which is located at 8100 Bob Williams Parkway in Covington.

"Whether you are an aspiring or published writer, you will find encouragement and skill sets at our conference to help you attain your goals," said Colleen Jackson, founder and director of the East Metro Atlanta Christian Writers. "It is our prayer and hope that this experience will be a life-changing event in your professional and personal development as a writer in the Christian or secular market."

She said the conference is for all types of writers - beginners, experts, Christian, secular, those looking to write a book and those who may just enjoy writing in their free time.

"Whether your goal is to get published or simply improve in your writing, this conference offers you a place to network in a more relaxed environment with other writers and editors," she said.

The conference features Dr. Dennis Hensley, a nationally known author, speaker and teacher, and Patricia Durgin, a professional trainer and local speaker.

They will be involved in such workshop topics as "18 Rules for Contemporary Writing," "Mastering Leads and Closings" and "How to Distinguish Yourself in the Marketplace," among others.

Additional activities include catered meals, networking sessions, contests, praise and worship time, and question and answer sessions.

A complete schedule, registration forms and more information about the conference are available online at www.emacw.org or by calling Jackson at 404-444-7514.

Registration is requested but not required. Cost is $85 for one-day registration and $175 for a two-day registration and includes two days of breakfast and lunch and a Friday night banquet.
