25-year-old charged in sex assault

Covington - Numerous charges have been made against a 25-year-old Carrollton man in connection with alleged improper sexual conduct with a minor child, according to the Newton County Sheriff's Office.

Brandon Terry Wiggins of 378 N. Highway 113 North, Carrollton, remains at the Newton County Detention Center following his arrest on July 1 on charges of child molestation, aggravated child molestation, statutory rape, enticing a child for indecent purposes, rape and aggravated sodomy.

NCSO Spokesman Lt. Mark Mitchell said the victim in the case was a middle school-age female relative and the charges were the result of incidents that happened over a period of time.

"We received a report on the 10th of May that there had been inappropriate activity between him and the minor female," Mitchell said. "The case was turned over to the Newton County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigation Division and their investigation resulted in the charges against this individual."

In other crime news, the mother of a 16-year-old girl notified the NCSO that inappropriate photographs of her daughter had surfaced on the Internet without her permission, according to a NCSO incident report.

The daughter told the investigating deputy that she had received an e-mail from a modeling company asking her for modeling pictures.

"She stated she sent several pictures in to the site and days later the company asked her for nude pictures," the report states. "She stated she sent about 20 pictures to the company and was sent an e-mail on MySpace advising her she had been tricked into sending the pictures and if she did not send more, they would be placed on the Internet."

The young girl told the deputy she believed a person from a local high school was responsible.

Also, a man was arrested following an incident on Ivy Drive on July 8, during which he allegedly hid behind a tree and masturbated in front of minor children.

Willie Robinson, 54, of 20 Haywood Court has been charged with two counts of felony child molestation and four counts of public indecency/indecent exposure. The child molestation stems from the indecent exposure in front of a minor child.

The four victims in this case said Robinson had been riding by their home for several days on his bicycle, waving at them. The day of his arrest, he rode his bicycle up the street and hid behind a tree and watched them, the report states. Alarmed at this unusual activity, an adult victim called 911 and while she was talking with the dispatcher, she reported that Robinson had begun masturbating, the report states.

Deputies went to the scene and arrested him.

The Covington Police reports the arrest of a woman on indecent exposure charges.

Gail Marie Baucom, 40, of 142 Jeffrey Lane, Oxford, was arrested on July 9 and charged with indecent exposure and public drunkenness after she was reported being seen in a public gazebo without a top.

According to a CPD incident report, an anonymous caller reported seeing her in a Williams Street park with two men. The responding officer said he observed her with her "shirt removed and her halter-style undergarment pulled down below the level of her breasts."

The report states upon the officer's arrival she was alerted to his presence by her male companions and she pulled her halter top up and put on her shirt. The officer said he could detect a strong odor of alcohol coming from her person.

"I located a nearly empty pint bottle of gin ..." the report states.
