CONYERS - A Conyers woman was assaulted and robbed in the parking lot of the Walgreens pharmacy earlier this week after a woman asked her if she could use her cell phone.
According to Conyers Police Chief David Cathcart, the victim suffered minor injuries and had her purse taken away from her during the attack that occurred at 10:45 p.m., Wednesday, at the Walgreens located at 1510 Milstead Road.
The victim was leaving the pharmacy and walking toward her car when the suspect, described as a black female, about 18 to 20 years of age, approached her and asked if she had a cell phone.
"Then the victim told her she should try to use the phone inside the store and after that she turned to walk to her car," Cathcart said. "When she did, the female grabbed her by the hair and started punching her in the back of the head, and at the same time trying to wrestle the purse off of her shoulder."
The victim told investigators that a black male in a gray, late 90s-model Cadillac drove up beside them as the struggle continued. The victim said she believed the man yelled out, "Let her go."
Cathcart said that the victim did not know what was going to happen next, so she dropped her purse and ran away. The suspect grabbed the purse, jumped in the car with the man and both drove away. They were last seen leaving the parking lot and pulling onto Milstead Road, but the victim did not see which direction the car traveled.
The victim was treated for minor scrapes at the scene by National EMS, Cathcart said.
The suspect was said to be wearing a yellow shirt and blue jeans shorts. There was no description available for the male suspect in the car.
