Please stop the madness of HR 2749! The bill would impose a one-size-fits-all regulatory scheme on small farms and local artisanal producers, and it would disproportionately impact their operations for the worse.
My husband and I moved to a small 5-acre farm last summer and produce our own food and sell extras to people from the area. We are desperately trying to live in a responsible, sustainable manner and improve agriculture in Georgia in our own small way. This ridiculous bill would put us, and many others like us, out of business immediately.
HR 2749 does not address underlying causes of food safety problems such as industrial agriculture practices and the consolidation of our food supply. The industrial food system and food imports are badly in need of effective regulation, but the HR 2749 does not specifically direct regulation or resources to these areas.
Please OPPOSE HR 2749. Thank you.
