COVINGTON - Doster's Food Pride was robbed by an armed gunman Thursday morning, according to the Newton County Sheriff's Office.
NCSO Spokesman Lt. Mark Mitchell said a little before 10 a.m. a call came in reporting an armed robbery at the store located on Salem Road, between Ga. Highway 81 and Shepherd Drive. "Witnesses said a black male in a gray hoodie brandished a firearm and it is undetermined at this time exactly what was taken," Mitchell said, adding that investigators are also trying to determine what kind of firearm the man had. The man then fled the store on foot, but it is unknown if he entered a waiting vehicle or the direction of travel, Mitchell said. "Officers have set up a perimeter and have, so far, been unable to locate him," Mitchell said about noon Thursday. No one was injured in the incident, Mitchell said. Authorities ask that anyone who has information on this incident call the NCSO at 678-625-1400.
