Tech-Able in Conyers is an authorized Microsoft refurbisher and adheres to strict reformatting of systems to remove all data from the systems to protecting personal information. Recycling

Newton County residents only may recycle household electronics, paints and dispose of pesticides on the first Saturday of each month. No TVs or commercial wastes accepted. The Newton County Landfill will accept these items from 8 a.m. until noon. Call 770-786-5808 for more information.

E-Cycle

Heartland Hospice

Heartland Hospice, formerly Portsbridge Hospice, is seeking volunteers to spend time with terminally ill patients. Training will be provided. Activities include listening, reading and praying or, if preferred, office or maintenance duties. Especially needed are donations of twin bedding and volunteers who can assist with office duties, mail-outs, filing and receptionist duties. Call 770-922-8767.

Creative Volunteers

Creative Ministries Thrift Store, 1279 Green St. in Conyers, is seeking donations of working appliances and furniture in good condition. Call 770-929-1000 for pickup of large items. Donations of clothing and small items may be dropped off at the store. The ministry assists troubled youth. Also, volunteers are needed to help receive, sort and price clothing two days a week. Store hours are Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Covington AA

The Covington Group-Alcoholics Anonymous meets seven days a week at noon, 5:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. at the Serenity House, 10150 Atlanta Road in Covington. Newcomers are welcome. Call 770-289-2820.

Meals on Wheels

The Rockdale Senior Services needs Meals on Wheels Volunteers to run a route once a week or once every other week. Routes average about 30 to 45 minutes. Please call Connie Rae at 770-922-4633.

Willing Helpers Food Pantry

Willing Helpers Food Pantry, located behind Solid Rock Baptist Church at 8111 Brown Bridge Road, is open on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Thursdays from 6 to 8 p.m. The ministry also supports a thrift shop and a free medical clinic for the uninsured. Cell Phones

Project ReNeWal DVIP, a battered women's shelter serving Rockdale, Newton and Walton counties, is collecting used cell phones. The local drop off location is Conyers Travel, 1540 Ga. Highway 138, Suite 1-A, located in the Bank of America building.

Special Needs Coaches

Rockdale County Therapeutic Recreation needs energetic, sports-minded individuals to help instruct and train youth and adults with special needs in sporting activities. The Olde Jail Museum

Abbey Hospice

Pet Food Drive

Habitat Store

Habitat for Humanity Conyers-Rockdale operates a surplus store, located at 1117 West Ave. in the Rockdale Plaza Shopping Center. Habitat sells used appliances, electrical and electronic devices in working order, furniture, lamps, tools, etc. The store is open on Thursdays, Friday and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Call 770-785-7675 to request information or to schedule a donation or pickup.

Newton Reads

Literacy Action

Anyone interested in teaching an adult to read, please contact The Church at Covington at 770-786-7293, ext. 21. Child care will be provided for children, ages newborn through first grade.

Friends of the Library

The Friends of the Nancy Guinn Library are accepting book donations at their new location at 1329 Portman Drive. Clean books in good condition are requested. The entrance to the Friends' bookstore is in the rear of building, near the ramp.
