SOCIAL CIRCLE - Newton's Aaron Reynolds took the top spot in the 135-pound weight division to help the Rams get a second- place finish in the Redskin Rumble on Saturday.
Reynolds, who beat Alcovy's Travis Knight in the finals, was the only champion with Allen Amancio (215) being the only other Newton wrestler in a finals match. Winning third place were Corey Ware (119), Carl Collins (125), Joe Domizio (140) and Hosea Hines (189) with T.J. Jones (130) and Tyler Hodges (145) taking fourth. Despite not having a full team, Alcovy made a good showing coming in eighth out of a 13-team field. Jon Seymour (103) also finished second along with Knight while Quint Collins (140) came in fourth. Alcovy's bright spot belonged to their heavy weight David Jones who won his weight class. "He wrestled extremely well. Winning that tournament was a big confidence boost for him," Alcovy coach Mike Mostek said. "We treated this as a conditioning. I was pleased with what we took." Commerce won the meet with Oconee County earning third place followed by Social Circle, Jackson County and Morgan County.More like this story
