COVINGTON - The Newton County Board of Education approved its 2009 meeting schedule during its regular session monthly meeting last week.

Most of the monthly work sessions are scheduled to be held on the second Tuesday of each month, while most of the regular session meetings are scheduled for the third Tuesday of each month.

However, four months differ from that schedule.

In February, the board plans to meet on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month, and in October, the board plans to meet the third and fourth Tuesdays of the month in order to avoid fall break.

In July and December, the board plans to meet just once for a combined work session and regular session meeting, as they have practiced in the past.

"(The schedule) follows the conventions we've always used," Newton County School System Superintendent Steven Whatley said.

Also included in the schedule is the January 2010 meetings, which are scheduled for Jan. 12 and 19.

All board work sessions and regular session meetings are scheduled to begin at

7 p.m. in the board room at the Newton County Board of Education office, located at 2109 Newton Drive N.E. in Covington.
