A 25-year-old man was struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Kirkland and Salem roads late Saturday afternoon. Few details were known of the accident, which is being investigated by the Georgia State Patrol. The condition of the man was not known at press time; however, officials said he was expected to be taken by air ambulance to an Atlanta trauma center.
In other news, according to the Newton County Sheriff's Office, five arrests were made late Friday night in connection with a rash of burglaries in the River Walk Farms subdivision located off Deering Road. NCSO spokesman Lt. Mark Mitchell said deputies were dispatched about 9 p.m. to the subdivision for a possible burglary in progress. "When they arrived they discovered that seven or eight burglaries had occurred," Mitchell said. "They saturated the area, patrolling the streets and around 11 p.m. apprehended five suspects and recovered some of the stolen property." Mitchell said the suspects are being questioned by the Criminal Investigation Division and further details on the arrests would be forthcoming.More like this story
