COVINGTON - For the first time in its three-year history, the Alcovy wrestling squad will compete today in the Class AAAA team team duals state championship at the Macon Centreplex.
Last week, the Tigers placed second at the Area 4-AAAA team duals at Ola High School, securing a spot as one of 16 teams to advance to the tournament in Macon. Led by coach Mike Mostek, Alcovy will face Hephzibah today during the first round of action. Should the Tigers prevail, they will face the winner between Glynn Academy and Whitewater. If Alcovy advances to the third round, it could mean a potential showdown with Rockdale, pending the Bulldogs beat their opponent in the first and second rounds. The black and gold features five of the county's elite grapplers - Malachi Outlaw (160 pounds), Jon Seymour (103 pounds), Adam Pollard (135), Travis Knight (140) and David Jones (285). Rounding out the Tigers are Alex Granada (152), Curnelius Dorsey (215), Zach Barton (125), Tyler Thompson (112) and Calvin Dallas (119).More like this story
