COVINGTON - Timothy Darnell Whitlock entered the world at 1:13 a.m. Friday, becoming the first baby of 2009 to be born at Newton Medical Center.
Less than 12 hours later, little Timothy was oblivious to the honor, sleeping soundly while his mother cradled him. On his tiny head was a cap reading "2009," knitted for him by volunteers with the Hospital Auxiliary. Timothy, who weighed in at 8 pounds, 5 ounces and is 21 inches long, was due Dec. 28, so his parents weren't expecting a New Year baby. He was named after his father, Timothy Whitlock. Mom Barbara Hunter, who has three other children, said the labor was easy. The other children are excited about the new addition to their family, she said. Dad is already predicting he has passed on his stature to his son. "I'm 6-foot-9. He's going to be pretty tall," Whitlock said. "He's probably going to play basketball." Mom had a different wish, however. "Hopefully, he'll be a doctor," she said. Birth Care Manger Tammy Hotz said the staff will present the family with a special gift before they head home to Madison today.
