Ash Wednesday marked the beginning of the Lenten season, a 40-day-long liturgical season of fasting and prayer before Easter. Father John Kieran, pastor of St. Pius X Catholic Church, places ashes on the forehead of parishioner Jill Wojcik as he recited the words, "Turn away from sin and believe in the gospel."
