Police seek theft suspect

COVINGTON - The Covington Police Department is looking for Kenneth Brinson, 48, who is the suspect in the theft of a necklace from Alcovy Pawn Shop in late January.

Sgt. Arvo Bowen said Brinson visited the shop on Jan. 28 and asked to see some necklaces that were on a tray and when the clerk showed him the merchandise, he concealed one of the necklaces in his clothing.

"I'm hoping we can incarcerate him before he tricks somebody else or decides he wants something that belongs to somebody else more than they want to keep it and somebody ends up getting hurt," Bowen said.

Bowen said there is security video showing Brinson taking the 24-inch gold necklace valued at $600.

"He'd take one and hold it ... then he'd pick up another one and while he was looking at that one, he'd palm the first one. You can see him holding it up to his chin and the clerk said, 'Give me the necklace that's in your hand,' but he denied having it," Bowen said, adding that the suspect then stretched his arms out and dropped the necklace down his back. "We were able to identify who it was and I've got a video of him doing it. You can see it plain as day."

Bowen said there have been several sightings of Brinson, but they haven't been able to pick him up yet.

"He's been spotted several times walking up and down Washington Street," he said. "Maybe somebody will do the right thing and give us a tip on where he's at before he steals from them."

Police ask that anyone with information as to the whereabouts of Brinson is asked to call the CPD at 770-786-7605 and ask for Bowen. Or, tips can be given to the CPD anonymously by visiting their Web site at www.covingtonpolice.com and clicking on "contact us" and then "secret witness."

Bowen stressed that any information received would be kept confidential.
