Twenty-one local wrestlers qualified for the traditional wrestling state tournament over the weekend during the sectionals tournament.
Representing the Newton Rams from Class AAAAA, who competed at Camden County, include Ryan Mitchell (112 pounds), Corey Ware (119), Carl Collins (125), Aaron Reynolds (135), Joe Domizio (140) and Hosea Hines (189). All three Rockdale County schools competed at Glynn Academy. The Rockdale Bulldogs (Class AAAA) featured the largest group (seven) in the county. The wrestlers are Jake Morris (103), Luis Ponce (125), Muhamad Bois (145), Kafuba Donzon (152), Jimmy Brown (160), Lloyd Martell (171) and James Toole (215). Representing the Heritage Patriots are Joel Maldano (103), Billy Abrahamsen (112) and Steven Crawley (119). Joe Morovich (171) is the lone grappler representing the Salem Seminoles. The Alcovy Tigers, who wrestled at Upson-Lee, include Jon Seymour (103), Adam Pollard (130), Travis Knight (140) and Malachi Outlaw (152). The state tournament begins Thursday at The Arena at Gwinnett Center in Duluth.More like this story
