COVINGTON - District 3 County Commissioner Nancy Schulz is giving her constituents the chance to tell her what's on their minds.
Residents of District 3 are invited to attend a "Fireside Chat" hosted by Schulz at 7 p.m. Thursday at The Oaks Course, located at 11240 Brown Bridge Road.
"It's truly a very informal format," Schulz said, adding that residents will have the chance to ask questions and air their concerns.
"The intent is to begin a dialogue with the residents of District 3 ... This is their government and they need to be involved in the process, and I want to hear as many of their concerns as possible," she said.
Schulz said she would particularly like to address how the commission is handling the recently announced budget shortfall.
There will also be a few formal presentations by Senior Planner Scott Sirotkin and Fire Chief Mike Satterfield.
The meeting is a way to open the lines of communication and keep government transparent to the residents, Schulz said.
To that end, Schulz, who started her first term in January, has created a newsletter that is posted on the county Web site at www.co.newton.ga.us to update residents on what's happening in government. Also on the Web site is a biography so residents can learn more about Schulz, and information on how to contact her.
Schulz said she plans to continue to hold fireside chats and will poll residents of District 3 on how often they would like the meetings to be scheduled.
