CONYERS - Thirteen Division I fast-pitch softball squads will showcase their skills, starting at 10 a.m. today at the Earl O'Neal Sports Complex during the second annual Tiny Laster Tournament.
"They called us last year wanting to use our fields," Rockdale Girls Softball Association president Bo Willis said. "We're hoping this brings some recognition here."
Four games open at 10 a.m., followed by four more at noon, four at 2 p.m. and two at 4 p.m.
Game 1 features Jackson State vs. Winston-Salem State on field 5. The other three are Florida A&M against Southern (field 6), North Carolina A&T against Alcorn State (field 7) and South Carolina State against Grambling State (field 8).
At noon, Alabama A&M battles Morgan State (field 5), South Carolina State takes on Southern (field 6), Mississippi Valley State plays Hampton (field 7) and Jackson State sees North Carolina A&T (field 8).
The 2 p.m. games include Alcorn State vs. Winston-Salem State (field 5), Howard vs. Mississippi Valley State (field 6), Grambling State vs. Morgan State (field 7) and Alabama A&M vs. Florida A&M.
Rounding out the games at 4 p.m. are Southern vs. Hampton (field 5) and Howard vs. Alcorn State (field 6).
Play will continue beginning at 9 a.m. Sunday. The last game starts at 3 p.m.
"It's exciting. We're looking forward to it, and it's a great thing for getting the girls around here exposure to build their dreams on," Willis said.
