COVINGTON - A Covington man has been arrested and charged in connection with the shotgun shooting of a teenager Monday morning, according to the Newton County Sheriff's Office.
Torrey Deonta Carr, 27, of 158 Neely Hammonds Drive was arrested Monday night between 9 and 9:30 and charged with aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. NCSO spokesman Lt. Mark Mitchell said deputies were dispatched to 560 Anderson Creek Road, located near the intersection of Ga. Highway 36 South and Anderson Circle, about 11:30 a.m. "When deputies arrived at the residence, they spoke to a female complainant who said two men at her residence had been involved in an altercation and one had shot the other," Mitchell said. The 18-year-old victim suffered gunshot wounds to his arm and back area, Mitchell said. He was taken by ground ambulance to an Atlanta trauma center. Mitchell said it is believed that his injuries are not life-threatening. Although Carr had fled the scene when deputies arrived, he left behind the shotgun investigators believe was used in the shooting. Mitchell said lookouts were given for the suspect in Newton and surrounding counties and he was arrested without incident Monday night in Newton County and taken to the Newton County Detention Center. Investigators are still looking into the circumstances surrounding the shooting.More like this story
