CONYERS - Two local schools are back in action on the hardwood in 8-AAAA South games tonight as another takes a much-needed night off.
Heritage welcomes Loganville while Salem visits Monroe Area as the regular season winds down for both schools. Heritage and Salem will face off in the final games of the regular season on Friday. Rockdale has the night off. Both the boys (17-6 overall, 7-0 in 8-AAAA South) and girls (4-19, 2-5) will visit Monroe Area on Friday. Heritage (4-2) has already solidified second place in the subregion, while the girls (3-3) have captured third. Heritage's Justin Jones leads the Patriots in points, rebounds and blocked shots. Jana Dixon, Sarah Herrington, Jasmine Middlebrooks and Giovanni Sims pace the Lady Patriots. The Lady Seminoles (21-2, 6-0) clinched the subregion title Friday with a win over the Lady Bulldogs. The Salem boys are still seeking their first subregion win. On Jan. 16, Salem (5-17, 0-6) came close but lost a heartbreaker to Monroe Area 69-64. Nevertheless, the Seminoles will be seeking redemption and looking for a positive end to the regular season. Jonathon Slade and Tevin Bradley lead the Seminoles. Regarding the No. 4 Lady Seminoles, they face a team that has lost 11 of its last 12 games. Behind the play of Precious Elkins and Ariel Wynter, Salem should be in line for another victory. The Lady Noles won their first meeting against the Lady Purple Hurricanes 45-38 on Jan. 27. Jason Murdock can be reached at jason.murdock@rockdalecitizen.com.
