CONYERS -- Christmas came early for two Conyers residents who both won big with Georgia Lottery games recently.

Christopher Ballas won $250,000 playing the lottery's Season's Greetings instant game and David Anthony Sr. won $391,446 from matching all five winning numbers in the Dec. 8 Fantasy 5 drawing.

Ballas, who operates the Roly Poly Sandwich Shop at Flat Shoals Road and Ga. Highway 138 with his mother, Jeanine Ballas, was obviously happy Thursday.

Calling himself "just the fall guy," Ballas said he went in with his mother to buy the ticket at the Texaco Plaza, located at 1410 Klondike Road. He knew right away that they had a winning game.

"Actually, I didn't get to scratch the ticket," he said. "She ran away and hid when she scratched it. I wasn't sure what she won, but it was a good chunk of change. She was as white as a sheet of paper."

Ballas said they just closed on a house and their winnings will certainly help.

Anthony purchased his Quik Pik ticket at the Shell Food Mart, located at 14656 Brown Bridge Road in Covington. Winning numbers were: 5-22-27-29-37.

"When I saw it, I didn't believe it," said Anthony, a grandfather of six. "I told my wife, and she screamed."

He and his wife, Sandra, anticipate paying off their home mortgage.

"I feel pretty good," Anthony said.
