COVINGTON -- The Newton County Recreation Commission and The Miracle League of Newton County are holding a can drive through Dec. 21 to benefit the Covington-Newton County Community Food Pantry.
Canned goods and non-perishable items can be dropped off at Turner Lake Complex, located at 6185 Turner Lake Road, between the hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
Those who bring at least four items will receive one free daily gym/walking pass. Those who bring eight items will receive two free passes. Those bringing 12 items or more will receive a free one-week pass.
All contributions will be delivered to the food pantry on Dec. 21.
"I feel like it's important for us to give back to the community, especially this time of year and in this economic time," said Recreation Commission Administrative Specialist Tammy Cheek. "The food pantry is in great need this year. They're very low and we're working really hard to help them."
