The familiar sound of the bell ringing to solicit donations for the Salvation Army's kettle fills the air recently at the Covington Wal-Mart. It was the first day on the job for bell-ringer Khristie Bowman, who cheerfully reminded busy shoppers to help the less fortunate, especially during the holiday season.
The Covington Service Center for the Salvation Army operates a thrift store and food pantry and will concentrate on assisting the elderly with special gifts this season, according to Director Jody Carver.
