HAMILTON - Eastside got its season off on the right foot, shutting out Harris County, 15-0.
The Eagles scored all the points it would need late in the second quarter when quarterback Califf Carnes found Git Aiken for a 30-yard touchdown toss to put Eastside up 7-0. "(Carnes was) very accurate on the night and had big completions to move the chains several times," Eastside coach Rick Hurst said. Eastside salted away the victory in the fourth quarter, taking up nearly eight minutes on a long drive that concluded with Carnes' three-yard touchdown run with forty-seven seconds to play that made it 15-0. "The way we came there in the fourth quarter, just about the last eight minutes off the clock and drove down and scored...we played very well," Hurst said. Meanwhile, the Eagles defense was outstanding, holding Harris County to less than 100 total yards. "We're healthy and we played a physical football team," Hurst said. We got some things to work on, but you can't argue with the defensive effort. It was a big win for us."More like this story
