Rockdale swept two games from Area 8-AAAA rival Loganville, 25-6, 25-19. The Bulldogs got contributions from just about everyone in the opener, jumping out to a 19-4 lead thanks to three kills from Lauren Aikens, two from Kelsey Girardot and four service aces by Taylor Burdette. Loganville got its only offensive point of the game on a kill, then a Brianna Dennis error to cut the lead to 19-6, but Rockdale scored the final six points, including two aces from Katie Bryant and two kills by Dennis.
"We worked on a couple things in practice; main thing is working on running our offense," Rockdale coach Stephen Sansing said. Game 2 was much tighter. Girardot picked up three thunderous aces in a row to put the Bulldogs up 10-4 and force a Loganville timeout. The visiting Red Devils went on a 13-8 run capped by Heather Prosise's kill, trimming the Rockdale lead to 18-17. But the Bulldogs settled down and scored seven of the final nine points on two aces from Burdette and kills by Janee O'Kane, Aikens, Girardot and Dennis. "Loganville's a good team (and) when you're a player in our region you're not going to be happy losing the way they did that first game," said Sansing. "It was important we put it away (in the second game), so I'm very happy." Rockdale made short work of Jackson earlier in the night, winning 25-2, 25-4.More like this story
