Police look for suspect
Man sought in Hispanic grocery store robbery

CONYERS - The Rockdale County Sheriff's Office is seeking information on a suspect caught on camera during an armed robbery of a Hispanic grocery store.

RCSO investigators released a photo of the gunman, who held up the Bella Vista Hispanic Grocery Mart on Monday. Investigators are pursuing armed robbery, kidnapping and aggravated assault charges.

According to the report, the man entered the store, located at 1373 Iris Drive, about 9:30 a.m. Monday, approached the store clerk, brandished a black semi-automatic pistol and demanded money from the cash register.

The store owner approached the suspect when he saw him go behind the cash register. The man then held the gun on both the clerk and store owner, while the clerk complied with his demands for money from the cash register. The gunman forced the clerk and store owner into the back of the store, searched cabinets behind the cash register and left the store in a white 1995 Chevrolet Corsica, the report said.

RCSO spokeswoman Jodi Shupe said the Corsica was recovered by investigators and later determined to have been stolen out of DeKalb County in an earlier carjacking and armed robbery in Decatur. There were no injuries reported from either incident.

The suspect was described as a black man with a slender build, about 5 feet, 8 inches to 6 feet tall, weighing about 150 to 160 pounds and possibly having a birthmark under one eye.

At the time of the incident, the gunman wore a knitted yellow and black striped hat with dreadlocks and large dark sunglasses. Investigators believe the suspect is from the Conyers area.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call RCSO Investigator Tracy Radford at 770-278-8169 or RCSO Investigative Assistant Allen Wright at 770-278-8155.
