COVINGTON - The Newton County Republican Party will hold a rally and fundraiser featuring most of the Republican candidates for governor at 6 p.m. Monday at Turner Lake Complex.
Gubernatorial candidates who have confirmed their attendance include Secretary of State Karen Handel, Insurance Commissioner John Oxendine, state Sen. Eric Johnson, state Rep. Austin Scott and Ray McBerry.
Former state Sen. Brian Kemp and Doug MacGinnitie, candidates for secretary of state, will also attend.
Others expected to be present are insurance commissioner candidates state Sen. Ralph Hudgens and Gerry Purcell, agriculture commissioner candidate Gary Black and labor commissioner candidate Melvin Everson.
U.S. Rep. John Linder will be the special guest speaker.
Candidates in the 2010 election will give a brief speech and those in attendance will have a chance to ask questions, said Delia Fleming with the Newton County Republican Party.
"This is to let everybody know the Republican Party in Newton County is more than alive," she said.
Tickets to the event, which will include a barbecue dinner, are $10 per person and can be purchased on site. Reservations are not required.
Two sets of University of Georgia football season tickets will be raffled at the event. Raffle tickets are $20 and can be purchased that night.
