County building robbed
Tools, truck missing at Public Works

COVINGTON - The Newton County Public Works maintenance building on Piper Road was burglarized and a 2007 Ford F-350 pickup stolen sometime during the night of Aug. 13 or the early morning hours of Aug. 14, according to a NCSO incident report.

An employee notified the NCSO that when he arrived at work on the morning of Aug. 14 he found one of the bay doors on the rear of the building open and one of the standard doors on the front of the building unlocked. Also, the door handle leading to the parts warehouse was broken, the report states.

Employees reported that in addition to the truck, several different types of specialty tools were missing, along with eight truck tires.

Additionally, another building at the front of the property was burglarized and missing from that building were three chain saws, five weed eater-type stick trimmers and a pair of 24-inch bolt cutters.

The investigation into the thefts is continuing and the NCSO asks that anyone with information on this incident to call them at 678-625-1400.
