Police: Man robs local bank
RCSO looking for suspect in Honey Creek armed robbery

CONYERS - Rockdale County Sheriff's Office investigators were looking for a lone suspect following an armed robbery that occurred Friday afternoon at the SunTrust Honey Creek branch.

The robbery occurred about 3:10 p.m. Friday, when witnesses said a black man walked into the bank, located at 3590 Ga. Highway 20, handed a teller a note demanding money and stating he had a gun, according to RCSO Capt. John Mumford.

The man had stopped by a table in the lobby of the bank and wrote the note on the back of a withdrawal slip before approaching a teller's window. After receiving the note, the teller gave an undetermined amount of cash to the man, who then left the bank on foot, Mumford said.

The investigation was being treated as a armed robbery, though no one saw the man pull out a gun. Mumford explained that a threat of a gun technically bumps the charge up to the more serious armed robbery.

"He threatened in the note that he had a weapon, although no weapon was produced, it's still an armed robbery," Mumford said.

Investigators obtained the note and images from the bank's surveillance cameras, Mumford said.

The suspect was described as being a black man with light skin color, 5-feet, 7-inches to 5-feet, 9-inches in height and having a heavy build. He wore a light blue shirt, baseball cap with dark shorts, dark socks and white shoes. He left on foot and is believed to have left the area in a blue minivan with possibly a white hood, Mumford said.
