MBA program: Clayton St. names new head

CONYERS - The Clayton State University MBA program coming to the Rockdale Career Academy in January has a new director.

The school appointed Dr. Michael Tidwell as director of the program that also holds classes in its main campus in Morrow and at a university instructional site in Peachtree City. He replaces Dr. Michael Deis, who served as director since it started in 2007.

"I plan to focus my attention on continuing the quality program that Dr. Michael Deis began almost two years ago," said Tidwell of his plans for the program in a press release. "My goals are to brand the program as highly accredited, internationally focused and community-minded. I'll do this by working with local chambers of commerce, Rotary organizations and county governments to express the importance and value of graduate education for their communities."

Previously, Tidwell was assistant dean of external relations and graduate programs in the school of business at Clayton State. He also teaches global business and strategic management in the school of business and is a tenured associate professor of management.

In June, the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia approved a proposal by Clayton State to partner with the Rockdale Career Academy in Conyers to offer an MBA program beginning in January.

In June, school officials said they plan to start Rockdale's program with about 30 students who have bachelor's degrees and are looking for advanced classes about business principles, and it will grow from there.

The school plans to hold an open house in Rockdale later this year, but in the meantime, the university holds MBA open houses on its Morrow campus from 5:30 to 7 p.m. the second Tuesday of every month in the Spivey Board Room of the Harry S. Downs Center. The deadline to apply for the spring MBA program is Nov. 15.
