Covington Lions Club member and Covington Police Department Capt. Craig Treadwell checks on the well-being of the barbecued chicken Wednesday in a new portable cooker that holds approximately 90 chickens. Treadwell and Lions Jeff Benton and Keith Dalton purchased the deluxe grill for the club's culinary fundraisers. Lips were smackin' as usual when crowds gathered for the annual event at Academy Springs Park where approximately 3,200 plates containing half a chicken, slaw, chips, bread and sauce were distributed. The 63 club members entered into a little good-spirited competition in selling tickets for the event and Treadwell reported he sold "pretty close to 500."More like this story
