Prep roundup: Lady 'Noles stay perfect in region

CONYERS - The Salem Lady Seminoles remain perfect in Area 8-AAAA play after a 10-0 win over Winder-Barrow, while the boys got back to .500 in the area with their 3-0 win Tuesday.

Senior Brittany Beaumont led the Lady Seminoles' scoring with three goals, followed by junior midfielder Taylor Gates (two goals and three assists), junior Brittany Whitson (one goal on a penalty kick and two assists), senior Shelby Boggus (two goals), with Jordan Young and Emily Boggus scoring one time each.

This marks the third mercy-rule victory for the Class AAAA No. 4 Lady Seminoles (12-3, 8-0) in the area.

In the boys game, Salem walked away with an area victory, winning 3-0 over the Winder-Barrow Bulldoggs. The win brings the boys to 7-7-0 overall and 4-4 in the area.

Scoring the first and third goals of the evening was junior Kwazi Yankee off an assist from two other juniors, Robert Williams and Jordan Reed.

The second goal was scored by junior Naveed Khan off an assist by senior Jacob Young.

Rockdale tennis splits with Salem

CONYERS - The Bulldogs improved their standing in the region with a 3-2 win over Salem, while it was the Lady Seminoles claiming victory in their 4-1 win over Rockdale on Monday.

Winning for the boys in singles competition for Rockdale were Shoman Kasbekar (6-0, 6-2 over Shon Bolen), Pathy Kunthy (6-7 (10-12), 7-5, 7-6 (14-12) over Logan Gunzenhouser) and Jasen Lauritsen (6-1, 6-0 over Bo Bateman).

Salem took both doubles matches with Blake Hullett and Sam Middlebrooks beating Jacob Dollar and Michael Taylor (6-3, 4-6, 6-0) at No. 1 before Justin Massey and Joseph Webb defeated Kevin Lin and Tommy Schimmel (6-2, 7-6 (10-4)) at No. 2.

The other four victories for Salem were provided by Kinsley Black (6-0, 6-0 over MeQuilla Franklin) at No. 1 girls singles, Tyler Upchurch (6-2, 6-3 over Rachael Ceciliani) at No. 3 girls singles, Kerrie Grunnet and Randi Estes (6-1, 6-2 over Sammy Girardot and Mei Lin) at No. 1 doubles and Abby Brandenburg and Jennifer Hall (7-5, 6-7, 7-6 (12-10) over Zuri Eshun and Keeyah Byrd) at No. 2 girls doubles.

Winning Rockdale's only girls match was Anna Grace Slifko at No. 2 singles with a 7-5, 6-2 won over Ammarah Muhmud.

Bulldogs soccer gets two wins

CONYERS - After going 0-9 to start the season, the Rockdale Bulldogs won two of their three games earlier in the week.

The Bulldogs claimed Area 8-AAAA wins over Monroe Area (5-0) and Cedar Shoals (3-2 on PKs) while losing to Heritage (5-1).

At Monroe Area, Efrain Martinez scored the first two goals, Brandon Story had an assist for the first one, with Joaquin Munoz scoring the final goal unassisted.

Keeping Monroe Area without a goal was Rockdale keeper Orlando Duggan with three saves.

After losing to Heritage, Rockdale improved its record to 2-10 after beating Cedar Shoals in the shootout.

Munoz and Story scored in regulation as Duggan recorded nine saves.

Finding the back of the net in the shootout were Story, Ivany Cobos, Geovanni Gonzalez, Ken Shinmura, Kevin Brawley and Mauricio Reyes.

Duggan had one save in the shootout.
