Tattersall's at the Mill to open Oct. 1

PORTERDALE - A former Conyers landmark will soon be opening its doors in Porterdale as the newest tenant in the Cotton Warehouse retail complex on Main Street.

Tattersall's, which for years was a mainstay of Olde Town Conyers retailing and later opened a branch at Honey Creek, is scheduled to open Tattersall's at the Mill in Porterdale at 6 a.m. Oct. 1.

Owner Kim Harper said the business will offer a full-service coffee shop with books, newspapers, cards, gifts and goodies, much the same as at the Honey Creek store.

In fact, the interior of the store will be reminiscent of the Honey Creek store since Harper had the cedar wood shelving and walls from that location removed and reworked to fit the new Porterdale store.

Harper worked for former Tattersall's owner Linda Moulton in Rockdale County for 18 years until Moulton retired six years ago. At that time, Harper said she bought the Honey Creek store and continued to run the business.

Two years ago, with her children grown, Harper said she decided to move to the Porterdale Mill Lofts. She said it seemed like a good time to bring the business along with her. "The lease was up at Honey Creek, and I thought the time was right to change it," she said.

Harper said she looks forward to working with customers in the Newton area, and notes that she expects to see new faces as well as familiar ones.

"I hope I can help everybody in this area," Harper said. "So many people from Conyers have moved out here to Newton County and Social Circle."

The new Tattersall's will be located at 2100 Main St., Porterdale. For more information, call 678-712-9500 or visit the Web site at www.tattersallsbooks.net.
