Crews have begun removing the paint from the historic jail on Stallings Street in preparation for its conversion into a history museum. The county awarded the $49,800 paint removal contract to Abatech Diversified Industries of Snellville. The scope of work to be performed by Abatech includes a four-part process: Stripping the red latex paint surface, applying a masonry afterwash, removing the lime-based white wash layer of paint and using a masonry restoration cleaner. The project will take 40 days to complete. The construction contract is set to be awarded in the coming weeks, with the museum expected to open in October 2009.More like this story
