"I think it is very bad taste to have a wine tasting party to raise money for the Magnet School, and very bad for the young people to see."

--

"I was concerned about a new thing at Rockdale Water Resources. I went into the office to pay the bill and was told that they could not accept my payment by check without a driver's license. What then becomes of a check that is mailed to the office or dropped in the drop box? They don't see my driver's license then. Wondering if I could get an explanation."

"I am a resident of Olde Town, and just wanted to let the concerned citizen who commented about adopting Christmas trees in the area know that every year for the past six years or so, the soccer team at RCHS has been going door to door selling Christmas trees. I buy one every year from them. It is really great, as the players and parents come and set it all up. I hope that they are doing it again this year. I hope they come by your home and I hope you support the local sports teams."

--

"To the person commenting on having to call the police on his neighbor for loud music, don't you think the better option would be to introduce yourself to your neighbor and talk to them about the volume of their music? You stated that you moved here in expectation of Southern hospitality and that's a lofty expectation when you have had more conversations with a 911 operator than you have with the person who lives next door."

--

"I agree with the person that said that the $1 million going to be used at Maxell for a large tennis court should be given to Rockdale Medical Center. They need the money more than we need a large tennis court."

--

"How is it not price gouging when the gas at the QT on 138 goes from $3.44 on Thursday to $3.89 by Friday afternoon? I guess since it is happening everywhere, it is OK (of course not). We blame the Republicans, but gas has increased even more with the Democrats controlling Congress. I am not convinced either are trying very hard to get these prices down, though I am thankful, even for a short time, that they dropped below $3.50. Can't wait until they go down to $1.50 again (yes, miracles can happen)."

My friend and I were lunching at Folks on Thursday with members of our family who are mentally challenged when we found out our bill had been paid. We would like to thank the nice thoughtful person who made our day. Thank you very much."

"When did the lack of respect hit Rockdale County? People break down while driving, it's a fact of life. You honking your horn like a lunatic isn't going to fix their car. Be polite and drive around."

--

"As an alumnus of Salem High School and the marching band, I returned this past Friday to see the new stadium and cheer on my alma mater. I was discouraged to see so much has changed since I was there! The students (particularly the band students) are awful. I found them to be extremely rude and inconsiderate. They do not listen and follow directions, and the halftime show, especially the guard, was appalling. ... "

"It would have been nice for the governor to have allowed state taxpayer funds of $50,000 to assist in the operation of Haven House here in Rockdale County. Since that will not be an option until the state's next fiscal year, I suggest we come together as a community and tackle this challenge for a worthy cause ourselves. I challenge the community to come together and make some donations to Rockdale Cares Inc. (www.rockdalecares.org or 770-922-7272) who oversees the Haven House. I for one am willing to lead by example and will be making a donation to them."

"This is in response to the comment regarding the Rockdale County Jail. First, let's address the issue about being fingerprinted for a gun permit. They don't bring 'law-abiding citizens' back to be fingerprinted when there are upwards of 30 inmates from court in the same area for safety reasons. I'm assuming that you made this comment because you've never been in the booking area during a busy court day. There are policies in place that are designed to limit the 'law-abiding citizens' contact with (potentially dangerous) inmates. Second, let's address the issue involving the gentleman that was attempting to turn himself in. I'm sure the influx of inmates caused a delay in his booking procedure, but I guarantee that he was given credit for the five hours he was sitting in the lobby area. That is five hours he did not have to spend in a cramped booking cell with the 30 other inmates from court. Make no mistake, I'm not taking up for the county jail, I'm simply bringing to light some issues and points that you probably couldn't fathom."

"To the person who made the 'Taser Cheer' comment about RCHS cheerleaders: Contrary to your belief, our cheerleaders take pride in their school and the opportunity they have worked so hard to earn. RCHS cheerleaders understand they are role models and put every effort into making football/basketball games an exciting event for everyone involved. They show up for practices and games just like everyone else and never expect a pat on the back for a job well done. So please know who you are speaking of before you make such comments."

"Beautification on Highway 138? Always the south side ... What about the north side? If you drive from the Wal-Mart intersection to the horse park it is medians of weeds! When will the north side see some landscaping on these medians? It is an eyesore, especially for the patrons we are trying to draw into Conyers who will have to travel the ugly road to get to the horse park. Don't forget about the north side! We live here too!"

--

"I hate seeing Newton County news in this paper. There is plenty to report on here in this county. I don't care how the Eastside cross country team did. I wish you would do a story on how well RCHS is doing this year. We are having a great year so far in the school and on the field. This is my senior year and I am tired of the paper ignoring us. Also, whoever posted the comment about the Taser cheer can kiss it. That was just mean."

--

"To the person that commented on how long they had to wait to get fingerprinted for a gun and about the man turning himself in. First of all, the people that work at the jail have to keep security first and foremost in their minds, you have inmates coming from court, and all other programs. The main priority is to get them where they are supposed to be with as little movement around the facility as possible. This is for your safety. Also, people turning themselves in usually have a specific time they were told to come in to do this. So before you judge and make harsh comments why not ask what is going on then you can be educated? This deputies do a great job with limited staff and I am proud of them all!"

"Instead of using SPLOST funds for tennis courts, how about using it for the Haven House? I'd vote for that."

Editor's note: SPLOST funds are earmarked for certain projects at the time they are approved by the voters and cannot be reallocated later.

--

"It amazes me that we can allow SPLOST monies to be allocated for a new tennis complex when we have a local high school (RCHS) that has a dilapidated and antiquated gym for its student activities. They were promised a new gym that was to begin construction this year. Now I've learned that Rockdale (again) has been placed on the back burner for another three-plus years. That gym is an embarrassment and should have been replaced long ago! It leaks all over when it rains and trash cans have to be placed strategically to catch water! They are the only school who cannot host simultaneous volleyball matches. In fact, to do so they have to use the Davis Middle School gym. It's a travesty when we have middle schools with better facilities in our county than a high school. Most counties have high schools with two gyms, in Rockdale, it seems an insurmountable task to get a (usable) one! I think we need to worry less about what the superintendent is driving and more about issues such as the gym situation at RCHS, which is deplorable to say the least."

"It is no wonder that the RMC is going broke. They see all the dopeheads in the ER. Maybe they should all have a blood test when they arrive. By the way, most do not have any insurance and then issue them more dope. They seem to find the money to get them scripts filled ... (probably from the things that they stole). Go figure! Wake up, if they are in the system frequently ... then I say turn them away. Then maybe the ones that really need attention could get in a little quicker ... "

"I was pumping gas at a local gas station on Highway 138 last week, when the woman beside me started screaming about the gas station ripping people off. This rude woman obviously has no idea of how life works. She was putting gas into a plastic gas container, when it pumped in more than the container was supposed to hold. Here's her hint to get a clue. Plastic expands! Especially when it's old. Her red five gallon plastic container was so old that it was pink. She pumped 5.077 gallons in her gas can, and started screaming like a mad woman that she was being ripped off by the gas station. The police even came out to the gas station to try to calm her down. Not only one car, but two. You could tell by the looks on their faces that the woman was an idiot. She started going to other customers telling them to go to another gas station! All this over .077 of a gallon that was in her old stretched-out gas container. That's less than a cup of gas. When you move to our community and act like an idiot, stand back and think about how stupid you look to other people. I drove past that same gas station yesterday. Guess what? It was still there! Your obnoxious yelling and telling the radio station did no good. I have a feeling that the gas station will still be there next week, too, and probably well beyond that!"

"Well this is where my concern is ... Why are all these fast food places upgrading their buildings if Covington is in such need of more taxpayers money? We should get to vote on a remodel. ... I think first it was our Wendy's then our Taco Bell. Oh and building a CVS in the parking lot of a fairly new CVS. Umm, help me here. I'm a little confused. What is the purpose of this? And then we have a new remodeled Wendy's and three miles down the road we are getting another one! We have two Zaxby's within 5 miles of each other. This all does not make sense to me. Why can't we build something Covington doesn't already have? We have many empty buildings that are a big eyesore just to name a few the old Food Depot, the old Wal-Mart, the old building beside Long John Silvers I mean, come on, bring us something to Covington we have never had or at least bring our Burger King back ... "

"In response to the person complaining about cigarette (cigar) smokers, I'd like to ask, do you drive an automobile? Ever think about how you are poisoning yourself, spouse, your children and everyone else around you with all the toxic emissions that are coming from that vehicle you drive, which is a lot worse than second-hand smoke! If you don't like it then I can say the same to you, stay on your own property! I'm sick to death of being discriminated against for smoking, We have been banned from any indoor smoking and now you want to ban us from outdoors too? I don't know about you, but my great-great-grandfather was a tobacco farmer, grew his own, rolled his own and lived to be the ripe old age of 98! It's not the tobacco or smoke killing people; maybe it's all the pesticides our 'wonderful government' has made the farmers start using in the last 60 years. Listen to the news lately? Do you still eat? What about all the foods that now supposedly cause 'cancer'? I guess everyone should quit eating, too. I'm sure other smokers would agree with me."

Editor's note: We are not aware of any government program that requires farmers to use pesticides. It is possible to buy ogranically-grown produce that is pesticide-free.

"To local candidates who wear Obama shirts and towels along with their own campaign paraphernalia. Are we to believe Obama supports your campaign? Run on your record and the issues, not his celebrity!"

--

"I made a comment a few months ago about the 'lingerie shows' taking place at lunch in a few of our local restaurant/lounges. Well, sad to report they are still going on. This is nothing more than a glorified strip show. Is this the kind of environment we want our children exposed to. I think with all that's out there now, we should do what we can to control it. Having these girls parade around half naked for everybody in the place to see, up close, touching allowed, is just not right. As far as the adults are concerned, there has been a lot in the news about sexual addictions. Could we be helping this industry out by allowing this to take place every day under our noses? We need it to stop. Let them go into Atlanta for 'that entertainment.'"

"The person who commented about single fathers in Conyers: We all know that wrongful imprisonment, invasion of privacy, violation of due process rights, and malicious prosecution is a common theme in Rockdale County. Been that way for a very long time. One reason is because our child support system is asking poor fathers to support a poor mother and children. This has not worked and will not work, because the money just doesn't exist. Our courts pursue these fathers with an iron fist collection policy, turning a loving father into a fugitive. This takes away the only thing a very poor father has to offer his child: His love and guidance."

---

"Our economy runs on wheels/car sales. Cars run on fuel refined out of soil pumped out of the ground. New oil wells and a new refinery will provide additional jobs. Drill now and drill everywhere. If states do not let companies drill on their coast, the federal government should cut off their federal gas taxes being returned to their states. Also, the governor of our state should fine gas stations for each station with gas over $4 a gallon."

"This is to the people who travel Woodland Road in the city of Conyers every morning. I would like to refer to Wednesday morning of last week. I was on Woodland that morning when I was stopped by a special needs school bus as were other cars. As I watched a mother was walking her special needs daughter to the bus. I could tell that the child was having a hard time walking so much so that the mother had to pick the child up to get her to the bus. As she was doing so a very rude woman two cars ahead of me started blowing her car horn. At that point the mother goes to the car and tells the very rude woman where to stick. All the while I was saying you go girl!. Come on people, what has this world come to when we can't even wait for a little bit. Have we come to a time were we have gotten so busy that we have lost all respect for other people. To the very rude woman: What if that were your child and someone did that to you. Do you have not a heart? Come on lady, show some love and respect for your fellow man or woman. As I remember you had your son or daughter in the car with you. What does that teach them - nothing but how to be rude! So come on people, learn to love your fellow man or woman. The next time you get behind any school bus, whether it be big or special needs, please show respect and learn to wait if for only a moment. Because that could be your child that someone is rude to. Also a great big thank you to all the school bus drivers and monitors for a great job you do every day taking our children to school and home. God bless each of you!"
