Editor's Note: The following is the third in a series of packages that will look at the local positions that are up for election in November and the candidates who are asking for Newton residents' votes.
Newton County Board of Education members are elected to four-year terms and are expected to attend two public meetings per month, in addition to other board gatherings throughout their tenure. The position pays $600 a month and requires the five members to vote on school system policies regarding daily management and operations in the Newton County School System by meeting at a work session and regular session each month, as well as in executive session and other special called meetings. They also often attend school and county events, visit schools and speak to the public regarding concerns about the school system.More like this story
