"In reply to the 'employee' who commented on Rockdale Medical Center last week; as a former employee (more than 10 years) I have worked during their good and bad times. I have worked with some of the nicest and most caring nurses, clinicians, technologists and support staff, many of whom lost their job or had their positions eliminated. The manager, director and vice president of my department were 'removed' from their positions after almost a year of my repeated complaints (many with written documentation or secondary witnesses) regarding their work practices. These practices still continue, unethical behavior is tolerated, and employees, such as myself, willing to speak out don't last very long (despite the years of service). As an employee, requesting the county allocate a tax fund for the hospital seems like a reasonable request, as a member of one or both the boards for the hospital the public scrutiny and potential for public oversight is not only undesirable but has the potential to add tangibility to any outstanding litigation."

"Being a former employee of RMC I would have to agree with the sale of the hospital. There are many upgrades that need to be made in respect to equipment/methods that are out of date. Maybe the new owners will take a little more pride/competence with the care/function of the hospital and those it serves."

"I was shocked to recently read about how protective orders are being used in family law cases here in Rockdale in an effort to harm and prevent a parent's ability to gain joint custody of their kids in divorce proceedings. Seems a little unconstitutional to boot daddy out of the house without any evidence or without holding a hearing before prohibiting him from having any contacting his own kids? I get it, remove daddy from the house and mommy becomes primary caregiver, huh? This tactic so undermines the victims of real abuse and violence. How sad."

"This comment/question is to the person in charge of the repair work on Milstead Avenue. After so-called repairing a couple of places close to the courthouse, nothing else has been done. The road has gotten so bad from Northside Drive to Main Street, you have trouble staying in the seat of your car! Over the past weekend, I saw hubcaps lying on the side of the road from cars that had hit some of these bumps. This would be a good place for a little SPLOST money for this instead of new tennis courts. Our roads are a disgrace. "

"Why does the ninth grade team at Heritage play a football game and the clock keeps running. I was at a game Thursday and the clock stopped on just a few plays. These boys deserve and practice just as hard as the varsity players. Why don't they deserve the same respect?"

--

"It's sad that it's cheaper to buy a bottle of beer than to get a 20-ounce soft drink!"

--

"Why are the football scores not published online?"

"Lorraine Elementary is still one of the best elementary schools in the county. Our principal is great and the majority of the staff is top notch. On the other hand, the reason for the 'never-ending line of SUVs in the carpool lines' is that we do care about our children and more importantly than the 'air we breathe' is the safety of our children. Our school may be wonderful, but the buses are far from it, with every cuss word written on the back of the seats, kids hanging out the windows to their waist, kids jumping over the seats, kids getting hit, the emergency door being opened while en route, just to name a few things. I have witnessed these things frequently by following the bus home and watching from my front porch where the bus turns around. My child rode the bus several times last year and this year. I have called the bus barn on more than one occasion, with no success in getting these issues resolved. My first priority is for my child and to ensure that he has a safe ride to and from school. I made the decision to spend my time each day to drive my SUV and sit in the carpool line with other parents that I am sure feel the same way - Our children's safety is first."

"I was looking over the restaurant ratings and I have a comment. I eat at several restaurants in both Newton and Rockdale. It is so gross when you go to sit down at a table and it has food on the table, on the floor, and I have to wipe the seat before I can sit on it. These are very popular places and I have really been skeptical about going again. I thought that they had people that were assigned the job of cleaning up after customers. They also need to be trained in customer service! I know some have a bad day, but I am a customer! Don't take it out on me! We eat at a lot of restaurants where we know a lot of the waitresses and they are friendly and acknowledge us like a friend. I know others out there feel the same way! Let them know how you feel!"

"About the RWR crews working on line break. First of all, could someone tell us how Mr. Tickerhoof (a contractor who is in charge of the county's (wastewater treatment) plants) was appointed chairman of RWR management team? A contractor in charge of a county management team instead of appointing an interim director until one is appointed? Just how many times has this five-member team met with all members present? How many times have they met with just Mr. Tickerhoof and one other member? How many times has this contractor hired-fired-disciplined county employees or made suggestions to do so and then have another member do so as to make it look like 'the team' is making these decisions?"

"What is going on at the Rockdale County Jail? A man came to turn himself in for a DUI on Monday. He came to the jail around 12 o'clock and it was 5 o'clock before he was processed. Also, if you need to be fingerprinted in order to get a gun permit, plan to spend the day or at least an afternoon. One person was told that they had to process all the people from the court before they could fingerprint anyone else. Yet they left the poor guy trying to turn himself in for five hours. I would think that law-abiding citizens should not have to hang around the jail for hours to get fingerprinted for a gun permit."

"Quick! Somebody call the school board and tell them to order more trailers. There are still a couple of trees and a patch of grass left at C.J. Hicks Elementary! When are we going to see some work on the new school we've been promised?"

"On Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2008, as the bell rang at 8 a.m. for students to report to class at Heritage High School, about 100 students gathered at the flagpole to protest the school board's withdrawal from school a very well-liked, involved student that has been a role model for all of his years at Heritage. This senior ... has been involved in football, drama, student council and many other school activities. He is polite and sets an example for others to follow. He is an Advanced Placement student with A's and B's. ... Over the past years, the school board has allowed many others to remain at HHS that did not live in this county without the consequences of having to pay tuition or give up custody. Man! These students are behavior problems in and out of the classroom. Why now, would the school board choose a student that not only the teachers enjoy having in class but that students from many different cultural groups would risk punishment by showing their support of their friend. There are many students attending our school that do not live in our county. Their parents have lied about their place of residence by having a friend sign an affidavit. Many of these students brag to us, their classmates, about where they live but because they have this form that says they live here, nothing is done to them. It is time for our school board to wake up and for the students of this county to make their voices heard."

"To whomever attacked Coach Frazier about the best player quote. Really? Why not put the entire quote on there? He said that that player was the best player on the field that night. I guess it's bad that Coach Frazier called individual names on defense. Someone has selective reading and it's not me! Frazier is a great guy who is turning the Heritage program around. Kudos to him and the squad, good luck as you continue your season!"

"I was shocked to read that the funds for the operation of Haven House had been taken away by the governor. This is not some pork barrel funding or bridge to nowhere. This was funding to run a home to be used as a respite home for mentally challenged individuals not just in Rockdale but in many surrounding counties. As a taxpayer I can think of no better use of my taxes than Haven House. And as a voter I will try to elect officials who will use my tax dollars for such projects."

"The discussions about the Tahoe are getting really old. Wake up, people! Can't you find something else to do that will have a positive impact on the community? Truth be told, a new Tahoe only gets 3 miles per gallon less than a new Crown Victoria (based on numbers from www.fueleconomy.gov). Driving 20,000 miles a year, that's a whopping savings of about $3.50 a day (at 21 working days/month). Even in a year it's less than $900. Compare it to the old Crown Victoria and it's even less. So make peace with yourself and find something else to talk about."

"I'd like to ask the Board of Commissioners to consider the installation of a sign-board/announcement board in front of the Rockdale Auditorium. We have some pretty terrific shows in our wonderful auditorium, however a sign-board to advertise the event for the weekend or coming weekend would help promote the visibility of the auditorium and those talents using the facility. Thanks!"

"Is it true, the new cheer at Rockdale High School is "Taser! Taser! TASER!?"

--

"I agree that Rockdale County needs a 'no-kill' animal shelter. I will volunteer time and resources. We need to work together to get this started. Please contact our Board of Commissioners!"

--

"Don't think there should be any negative comments about high school sports, especially softball players, such as when a pitcher walks runners!"

--

"I would like to personally praise the woman who is spending so much of her time and energy giving the loving care that she does to these poor unwanted animals. We should all try to help her do her good work instead of criticizing and forcing her to waste any energy fighting a system that has no concern for helpless animals. These are domesticated pets that she cares for and more of this should be allowed and provided for by the state as this area is known to have an abundance of animals that people surrender or just leave. If you choose to have a pet, you make a conscious decision to care for the animal, not turn it out at any whim. I applaud this woman for all her work and ask her to please keep up the fight."

"The tennis courts being built over at the Maxell Building are the ones paid for out of SPLOST. If you recall the SPLOST was approved by the voters. Now regarding the Rockdale Hospital, the hospital needs to learn to stand on its own. The citizens are bailing out too many businesses these days with our tax dollars. Maybe the hospital should run their business like most of us run our households, which is only spend what you have income for."

"The article on the beautification of Highway 138 did not include information on the city of Conyers' contribution to the project. Since most all of the property on both sides of this section of roadway are considered city properties, shouldn't the city contribute to this project? City police have jurisdiction from I-20 to Flat Shoals Road and collect ticket revenue that could go toward this worthwhile project. Thanks for the opportunity to comment."
