COVINGTON - The search continued Monday for a Newton County man who is believed to have drowned Sunday in a single boat accident on West Point Lake. A companion in the boat, identified as Michael Ramberg from Newnan, was taken to Georgia Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition.
Rick Lavender, spokesman with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, said Monday that DNR officials continue to search the area of West Point Lake, which is located on the western border of the state, for William Andrews. Lavender said a boat with side scan sonar was used to search the water.
"The details that we have are still sketchy," Lavender said. "We've been told William Andrews is from Newton County."
Lavender said no "definitive" details about Andrews were available as of press time.
Lavender said it was his understanding that two men were in a small boat that sank in what was believed to be a one-boat accident about 7 p.m. Sunday.
"Witnesses who were on the bank and in the water in a boat reported they heard someone crying for help, and one witness pulled one of the men out of the water and began administering CPR," he said.
