Shooting victim draws blank on incident details

COVINGTON - Early Sunday morning a 19-year-old man who had been shot in the foot went to the emergency room at Newton Medical Center, and authorities in two counties are trying to sort out the details of what actually transpired.

According to an Newton County Sheriff's Office incident report, a friend of the victim told hospital personnel they had been at Daddy's, a night club located in the Salem Gate shopping center in Conyers, when his friend was shot.

Rockdale County Sheriff's Office investigators were dispatched to the hospital, but when they began questioning the two, they reported that both became uncooperative.

"Then the mother of the victim showed up at the emergency room and said the shooting took place on Mountain View Drive here in Newton County," said NCSO Lt. Bill Watterson, adding that at that point Newton County authorities were summoned to the hospital. "She stated that she knew who shot her son and gave us a name."

Watterson said at that point the victim said he could remember nothing of the matter - not who shot him, nor where it occurred.

Watterson said because the mother was not an eyewitness and since the victim is unwilling to cooperate, their investigation into the matter is being hampered.

"If anybody has any information regarding this incident, we urge them to contact NCSO Investigator Mark Hegwood at 678-625-1414," Watterson said.
