NCSO investigating possible hit and run

COVINGTON - The Newton County Sheriff's Office is investigating what appears to be a pedestrian hit and run accident on Brown Bridge Road Sunday night.

According to a Sheriff's Office report, a passerby observed an Asian female, age unknown, lying on the side of the road near 13165 Brown Bridge Road at about 8 p.m.

Lt. Mark Mitchell said the woman had been injured and deputies found "some evidence of what was possibly a pedestrian accident. And that's all we have right now."

Deputy Robert Gordon, who responded to the incident, wrote in his report that the vehicle that struck the pedestrian had not stopped and had not been identified, although it may have been a Chevrolet or GMC truck.

Mitchell said the victim was transported to Atlanta Medical Center by ground ambulance.

The case remains under investigation.

The Sheriff's Office is also investigating an armed robbery in the Windscape subdivision off Brown Bridge Road that was reported on Oct. 22.

According to Mitchell, the Sheriff's Office received a call from a woman reporting the incident from the McDonald's located at the intersection of Salem and Brown Bridge roads.

Mitchell said the woman reported that she and a 27-year-old man were walking on the soccer field in the subdivision at about 2 p.m. when they were approached by a black man dressed in a red and black hoodie and jeans. Mitchell said the suspect allegedly produced a handgun and stole some jewelry from the female victim.

The female victim told officers she took off running and heard some shots fired. Mitchell said neither of the victims was injured.

Mitchell said the female victim, who is 21, lives in Windscape, while her male companion was visiting her. Neither of the victims knew the suspect, he said.
