Former Heritage standout Terrione Benefield turned in a strong performance in Georgia Southern's 37-36 loss to Appalachian State on Oct. 18.
The junior outside linebacker recorded seven total tackles (four solos, three assists) for the Eagles. He also credited with a half sack in the loss. Benefield is third on Georgia Southern in tackles with 42 total tackles (22 solos, 20 assists) in six games. He has started six of seven games for the Eagles. FOOTBALL Ahonen chalks up five tackles for Yellow Jackets Salem's Scott Ahonen collected five total tackles (one solo and four assists) in Randolph-Macon's 24-10 loss to Emory-Henry on Oct. 18. The senior cornerback ranks second on the Yellow Jackets in tackles this season with 34 (18 solos and 16 assists). He also has one interception and two fumble recoveries. Mathis continues to shine for Alabama St. Former Salem quarterback Darius Mathis continues to shine as a wide receiver for Alabama State. Mathis, a redshirt freshman, caught three passes for 45 yards for the Hornets in a 27-7 loss to Grambling State on Oct. 18. One of his receptions went for 30 yards. The freshman is Alabama State's leading receiver so far this season with 28 catches for 320 yards and four touchdowns. SOCCER Hall notches assist for Georgia Southern Former Salem standout Danny Hall tallied an assist in Georgia Southern's 4-1 victory over Gardner-Webb on Oct. 17. Jon Kinsler scored off Hall's assist to give the Eagles an early 1-0 lead five minutes into the game. Hall, a junior, has two assists in 11 games this season for Georgia Southern. He started for the Eagles. Woodson picks up assists for Columbus State Rockdale's Jessica Woodson notched her first assist of the season in Columbus State's 5-0 victory over Lander on Oct. 18. Woodson, a sophomore, has played in five game this season for Columbus State. Freshman Easterbrook seeing action for FGCU Freshman Colin Easterbrook is making an impact for Florida Golf Coast University. The Salem product had a shot on goal in the Eagles' 2-0 loss to Jacksonville State on Oct. 19. Easterbrook has now played in six games this season with one start. CROSS COUNTRY Wolcott helps Lady Owls finish second Junior Soibhan Wolcott helped the Kennesaw State women's cross country team finish second in the Front Runner Invitational at Chattanooga, Tenn., on Oct. 18. The former Heritage standout finished eighth overall in the two-mile race with a time of 11 minutes, 43 seconds.More like this story
