COVINGTON - The tax commissioner's job duties include preparing the county tax digest; submitting consolidation reports to The Board of Commissioners, The Board of Education and municipalities; delivering the digest to the Department of Revenue for submission; billing and collection of real and personal property taxes; registration and titling of motor vehicles; distribution of tax revenue to the state of Georgia, Board of Commissioners, Board of Education, Hospital Authority, fire districts and municipalities. The tax commissioner serves a four-year term and oversees a staff of 14 people. The starting salary is $78,247.12, with additional annual supplements based on longevity, cost of living adjustments and other factors.More like this story
