COVINGTON - A 30-year-old Covington woman has been charged with vehicular homicide in the second degree and failure to maintain lane in connection with a crash that killed a man on Lower River Road in April, according to the Newton County Sheriff's Office
Kimberly Sue Womack of 50 Shenandoah Court was arrested and charged Oct. 9 at the Newton County Detention Center. Lt. Bill Watterson said the crash occurred on April 12 around noon in the approximate area of the 1300 block of Lower River Road. He said there was a curve in the road and it was raining at the time of the crash. "Her vehicle left its lane and impacted the oncoming vehicle and severely injured the driver," Watterson said. "He was airlifted to Atlanta Medical Center where he passed away that evening." Watterson said the charges were the result of an investigation by the Georgia State Patrol's Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team. At the time of the crash, GSP Trooper Jeremiah Slayton identified the dead man as Tellis Wood of 235 Hazelhurst Drive. He said Wood was driving a 2004, four-door Oldsmobile Alero and was traveling north when a Dodge Ram pickup driven by Womack was traveling south and veered into his lane of travel. Womack was said to have suffered abrasions from air bag deployment, but did not require hospitalization. Barbara Knowles can be reached at barbara.knowles@newtoncitizen.com.More like this story
