Man accused of statutory rape of 13-year-old

COVINGTON - An 18-year-old Conyers man has been arrested and charged with statutory rape after a Newton County Sheriff's Office deputy found him and a 13-year-old girl together in a parked car near the area of Alcovy Trestle and Hazelbrand Road, according to Lt. Mark Mitchell.

Aaron Leonard Gadson III of 1206 Dressage Ridge, Conyers, was arrested in the early morning hours Sunday and charged with statutory rape, enticing a child for indecent purposes, aggravated child molestation and driving in violation of a limited permit.

"The deputy made contact with the individuals inside the vehicle and the girl initially told him she was 16," Mitchell said, adding that further investigation revealed the young girl was actually 13.

An incident report completed by Deputy Brad Verzinskie said despite the fact that the windows in the silver SUV he found parked on the side of the road after 1 a.m. Sunday were fogged, he could see two people "moving around in the back seat of the vehicle."

He said when he approached the car, Gadson exited the rear passenger door and he could see the girl in the luggage area.

Mitchell said the case has been referred to CID for further investigation.

The 13-year-old juvenile was charged with giving a false information to a law enforcement officer.
