CONYERS - A 13-year-old boy is recovering from injuries sustained Friday night when he was thrown from his bicycle after being struck by a car on Salem Road.
Sgt. Jodi Shupe with the Rockdale County Sheriff's Office said the teenager was riding his bicycle on the northbound shoulder of Salem Road between Old Salem Road and Fairview/McCalla roads about 10:40 p.m. when he was hit. "A red passenger car struck him from behind and drove off," Shupe said Saturday. "One witness stayed with the boy and another witness tried to tail the car, but lost contact." Witnesses said they believe at least two people were in the car at the time of the incident, she said. The boy was transported by ambulance to Egleston Children's Hospital in Atlanta. Shupe said he sustained a broken ankle and bruising. "We are looking for a red passenger car, with damage possibly to the windshield, but definitely to the right passenger side of the car," Shupe said. Anyone with information about the hit and run is asked to call the RCSO's Special Operations Unit at 770-918-6743. Aimee Jones can be reached at aimee.jones@rockdalecitizen.com.More like this story
