Dan Dieterle of the Big Green Eggs and Ham competition cook team of Atlanta prepares a rack of ribs with his secret dry rub Friday afternoon as the third annual Sherman's Last Burning fall festival and barbecue cook-off got under way at Legion Field. The air was filling up with an inviting smoky smell as other competitors prepared for the national Jack Daniel's competition. The event will run until 6 p.m. today and will not only feature mouth-watering barbecue, but a reptile show, a Mr. and Miss Hazzard contest and a Covington Idol contest. Arts and crafts and other entertainment will be offered throughout the festival. The event is sponsored by the Covington Lions Club, and proceeds will be used for its eye care and scholarship programs. Admission to the event is $3 for general admission, and children under 12 who are accompanied by an adult get in free.
