Lady Eagles open region playoffs with 8-0 victory

HARTWELL - The No. 2-seeded Eastside softball squad secured a spot in sectionals Tuesday by blanking Franklin County 8-0 during the first round of the Region 8-AAA playoffs at Hart County High School.

It was Eastside's fourth consecutive shutout.

Eastside pitcher Amanda Henderson continued her stellar season by tossing a no-hitter. Henderson, a junior, recorded 10 strikeouts, improving her season total and school record to 241.

With the win, the Lady Eagles improved to 21-5-1 overall.

"Offensively, we did a great job and our bats really came out strong," Eastside coach Heather Wood said. "It took us a couple of innings to adjust to the pitcher, but by the third inning everybody started getting hits and our bats started coming around."

Eastside plated one run in the first inning, and that was all the help Henderson needed.

The Lady Eagles tacked on four more runs in the fourth and three in the fifth.

At the plate, Henderson led the team by going 3-for-3. Shea Shepherd added two RBIs, while Amanda Hawkins had one RBI.

Eastside, ranked No. 5 in Class AAA, will next face Hart County at

1 p.m. Thursday at Oconee.
