CONYERS - The Rockdale volleyball team wrapped up its regular season with a 25-21, 22-25, 25-19 loss to visiting Habersham Central on Thursday night.
The Lady Bulldogs (15-15 overall) finished third in Area 8-AAAA South with a 7-3 record and will receive a first-round bye in the upcoming Area 8-AAAA Tournament.
In the first game, the Lady Raiders jumped out to a 5-0 lead before the Lady Bulldogs came storming back. Tayla Mitchell and Jasmin Miller recorded kills as Rockdale surged in front 11-9.
In fact, the Lady Bulldogs opened up an 18-15 lead on Lauren Stewart's ace. But Habersham Central rallied to tie the game at 18.
Miller's kill put the Lady Bulldogs back in front 19-18, but Habersham Central claimed seven of the final nine points to capture the opening game 25-21.
In the second game, the Lady Raiders appeared to be headed for a two-game sweep after taking a 12-3 lead.
But the Lady Bulldogs rallied behind the play of Brianna Dennis, Miller and Stewart. Dennis had two kills and two blocks, Miller added two aces and Stewart chipped in two kills and a block as Rockdale took a 15-14 lead.
The Lady Bulldogs extended their advantage to 19-16 on a Stewart block and a Mitchell kill.
Habersham Central came back to take a 20-19 lead before Rockdale closed out the game two victory with a 6-2 run. Miller put the 25-22 victory away with a kill on the final point.
In the third-and-deciding game, Habersham Central, once again, opened up an early five-point lead at 7-2. But just like the first two games, Rockdale rallied to take the lead.
Stewart's kill and Miller's ace completed a 9-3 run by the Lady Bulldogs, who built an 11-10 advantage.
From that point, the two sides traded points until Habersham Central opened up a 19-17 lead late in the match.
The Lady Raiders took six of the final eight points to claim the match.
