LOGANVILLE - The Heritage softball squad dropped a heartbreaker to Loganville 4-2 on Tuesday, wrapping up a second-place finish in Region 8-AAAA South.
Heritage (19-6-1 overall, 6-2 Region 8-AAAA South) led 2-1 entering the bottom of the seventh before Loganville's Jessica Womble launched a dramatic walkoff three-run homer. "We played well but just didn't finish," Heritage coach Dickey Hightower said. "But I think we showed we can play with the good teams." After falling behind 1-0 in the bottom of the first, Heritage tied the game in the third with some clutch hitting. Whitney Phillips doubled with two outs and Katie Cuson followed with an RBI single to tie the game. In the fourth inning, Callie Alford led off with a triple and scored on a wild pitch, giving the Lady Patriots a 2-1 lead. Overall, the Lady Patriots had six hits, two by Katie Cuson. Heritage will face Habersham Central at 4 p.m. Tuesday in Madison County in the Region 8-AAAA tournament.More like this story
