NCSS officially awarded district accreditation after review

COVINGTON - After a review team with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools recommended the Newton County School System be awarded district accreditation in late August, the system has announced that it has officially received the new accreditation status.

Child dies in crash Mother, two other children airlifted

COVINGTON - The Newton County Sheriff's Office and the Georgia State Patrol are investigating a single vehicle crash that left a 5-year-old child dead and the mother and two siblings seriously injured, according to Lt. Mark Mitchell, spokesman for the NCSO.

COVINGTON - The City Council approved a special-use permit for an auto repair shop at 7161 Washington Street on Monday night, but added a long list of conditions.
